Snow Day Fun

Snow Day Fun

We just love a good snow day-- where the temperature hovers right around freezing, the sun is shining bright, and the snow looks like sparkling glitter in the light. Ahhh. . . magical.

Try these fun activities around town on those upcoming magical snow days!

Ice Skating

Pittsburgh has some really great outdoor ice rinks in the city and in the surrounding parks.

For the quintessential holiday skating experience, you must check out the PPG Ice Rink near Market Square's Holiday Market. It is a magical experience being next to all the glass buildings that resemble a crystal palace.

Outdoor ice rinks can also be found in the many parks just outside of downtown Pittsburgh. There are rinks at Schenley Park, South Park, and North Park.

Skiing and Snow Tubing

For the more adventurous souls, you can ski and snowboard really close to town.

Boyce Park has a beginner level ski slope with rentals available. Great for kids that are learning how to ski or snowboard. There is also tubing at the park.

For an even bigger snow adventure, head up to Seven Springs or Hidden Valley for a winter wonderland trip to the Laurel Highlands.

Snowshoeing

There are an abundance of parks in and around Pittsburgh to enjoy a snowshoe adventure. During the winter months, I have seen people snowshoeing on the South Park Golf Course.

Venture Outdoors has a great list of some western PA state parks that are great for exploring by snowshoe.

Whatever snowy outdoor activity you decide to do this season, we hope you have blast!
