Summer is here and one of the best ways to celebrate summer is to get out and enjoy the activities at our local parks. Allegheny County Parks consists of Hartwood Acres, North and South Parks, Boyce, Deer Lakes, Harrison Hills, Round Hill, Settler's Cabin, and White Oak Park. Visiting Allegheny County Park's website allows you to peruse the different events held at each park. Here are a few of our favorites!
Summer Concert series
Grab your camping chairs and give your parking chairs a break and head to the concert series at two local parks! The Summer Concert Series is held at Hartwood Acres on Sundays and at South Park on Fridays. The concerts are free and start around 7:30pm at both locations. It's a perfect way to spend your evening listening to music as the sun sets! As an added bonus, both locations have a great selection of food trucks at every concert!
Fun at North Park
Did you know North Park is Allegheny County's largest park? North Park also boasts Marshall Lake, which is manmade. There are many activities for you to enjoy on the lake in North Park. Kayak Pittsburgh offers kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and pedalboat rental options. The summer of 2020 was my first time kayaking, and I had so much fun! I grabbed a group of friends and we ventured to North Park where fun times were had by all.
North Park has more to offer than just playing on the lake! There are many beautiful walking and hiking trails too. There is also a BMX track and Go Ape, which has a thrilling zipline and a treetop obstacle course.
