Tell us about your brand and why it’s the best

Winter Pickle Press creates distinctive, hand-printed greeting cards and wall art using only recycled and sustainable materials, safe inks, and plant-based protective sleeves. Instead of sending a mass-produced card you can mail someone a unique piece of art to brighten their day.

What is your background and the story behind why you started Winter Pickle Press?

If you meet me in person, probably the first thing you'll notice is that I ain't from round here... the British accent is a big clue to my origins, even though I feel like I've definitely become more of a yinzer over the years ("These cards need printed!"). I started taking printmaking classes when I lived in San Diego for a few years, just as a hobby while I worked for an art conservation center. It can really get under your skin though, and I found myself constantly thinking about ideas for prints and trying to solve the puzzles that come with bringing prints to life. After moving to Pittsburgh in 2015 and suffering a bit of a printmaking drought, I got back into it and started Winter Pickle Press in late 2019.

What one product do we need to know about and why?

The I Miss Your Real-Life Face card has been a big hit this year. It started life in March a week after lockdown when I designed and carved it specifically to raise money for Meals on Wheels. Which it did (yay)! But as the year has gone on, people are still finding the sentiment very apt. And buying it does still help an amazing cause as I'm now donating a portion of all card sales (retail and wholesale) to the Innocence Project who work to reform the criminal justice system.

In three words, why do you love Pittsburgh?

Accents, community, attitude

How can people find out more about Winter Pickle Press?

My website carrying almost all my products can be found at www.winterpicklepress.com, or if you're an Etsy fan then you can find me at www.winterpicklepress.etsy.com. I do have an Instagram page (instagram.com/winterpicklepress/) but I've come to realize that I'm a much happier maker when I eat less Instagram....so don't expect too much from me there!
