Tell us about your brand and why it's the best.

I value the unexpected and understated. I like words on necklaces that are cynical instead of sentimental, edgy instead of sweet. I try not to dwell or over think in my creative process and I also try not to take it too seriously. I make pieces that I would wear myself. I’m always thinking not only of what would be fun or lovely, but also what you could wear to work and a party and with your kid on your hip. It’s practical.

What is your background and the story behind why you started?

I started my business while needing a distraction from heartbreak. It started as a hobby and then grew into an obsession. I’ve always been a maker. Making jewelry has been especially gratifying because it can be so personal. My aesthetic has evolved over the past 10 years from beads to gems to metal. I love the fact that even with a limited choice in material, the outcomes are infinite. I love the slight variations you get when metal is burned, or ages, or is oxidized --- those variations are what make each piece special. Aside from the biz, I love cooking and eating, playing tennis, crosswords on Saturday, frisbee with my dog, tv with my kids, and travleling with my family.

What one product do we need to know about and why?

The Miyuki Bead Wrap Bracelet is one of my favorite pieces because of it's versatility. You can wrap it to look like you're wearing stacked bracelets without spending all the money and it is delicate enough to not get in the way. I also love the earthy color combination because it goes with just about anything.

In three words, why do you love Pittsburgh?

Quality of life
