TELL US ABOUT YOUR BRAND AND WHY IT’S THE BEST

Buildings By Shane - architectural illustrations of famous, and not-so-famous, landmark buildings and structures.

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND AND THE STORY BEHIND WHY YOU STARTED?

I’m a graphic designer, illustrator, and photographer originally from New Kensington just north of the city. I’ve always been fascinated by architecture and a lot of my photography centered around taking pictures of buildings, churches, courthouses and other interesting locations. There are many many talented photographers out there, and I thought the best way for me to express my creativity was instead to do illustrations of buildings rather than just photos. I’ve always been inspired by art deco and flat design, geometry and lines, minimalism and color, and so I took all those ideas and mixed them together to start my Buildings By Shane project.

WHAT ONE PRODUCT DO WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT AND WHY?

The product I am most excited about is my screen print of the Civic Arena. I mostly do digital prints from my Epson Artisan 1430 printer on 50% recycled Mohawk paper, but for buildings that have unfortunately been demolished, I created designs in lighter colored opaque ink that are screen printed on dark grey Mohawk paper. They really pop and I think are a nice tribute to these places that hold a lot of our memories.

IN THREE WORDS, WHY DO YOU LOVE PITTSBURGH?

There are so many things I love about Pittsburgh, but to single down to three words, I’ll go with: history - architecture - people

HOW CAN PEOPLE FIND OUT MORE ABOUT YOU?
