I live in the Westwood neighborhood of the city of Pittsburgh.
Tell us about your brand and why it’s the best:
Second Block Studio is my business baby (born around the time of my actual human baby!). In my design studio, I offer a selection of design services for clients, but I really love when I'm able to offer products that I've made about something I'm excited about. Second Block Studio has turned into a way for me to really be intentional about my work and art. I love what I do and I hope that comes through in my work.
What is your background and the story behind why you started creating?
I started my business after my daughter was born. I'd been in a high-pressure work environment for 12 years and was looking for something new, so going out on my own was the right next step. I've always done little passion projects on the side... having my own business has allowed me to focus in on that kind of work and its potential to help me grow as an artist and connect with my communities. Much of my work is done on the computer, so I like to offset all that sitting screentime with good food and nature walks.
What one product do we need to know about and why?
My "Pittsburgh A to Z" print is my alphabetical love letter to the area. I moved to Pittsburgh to attend the Art Institute and absolutely fell in love with the city. This print is a good choice for a local 'Burgher, a transplant (like me!), or someone that's relocated elsewhere but likes to remember home. It's also good for any age - it looks just as good in a nursery as a living room or hallway. I love how much people connect with this piece!
