Business Name

Michael Paras

What neighborhood do you live in?

Plum/Monroeville

Tell us the story about your brand. Why is it the best?

We’re Pittsburgh natives. We’re fourth generation Greek-Americans. In 1921, John Paraskevas immigrated from Greece to Pittsburgh. He worked as a baker and chocolatier at the Manos Baking Company. Fast forward to 1968. Harry and Catherine Paras purchased Betsy Ann Chocolate which is managed by the Paras family to this day, over 55 years later.

Paras Candies is something entirely new. It combines the rich history of our family as chocolatiers and a passion for modern confections. With quality and taste as our guiding principles, we are carrying the Paras family’s tradition of chocolate making forward for the next 50 years.

What is your background? How did it lead you to starting your brand?

I've spent my career in sales, business development and Sr. Managment. In my personal life, I've spent a great deal of time in and around the chocolate industry. These experiences, interests and passions collided in 2023, and Paras Candies was the result!

What one product do we need to know about and why?

Box of chocolate truffles with a visible brand logo on a light background

Paras Truffles! There is nothing like them in Pittsburgh. They are hand-made, gourmet truffles made with super premium Swiss chocolate and ingredients from all over the world.

In three words, why do you love Pittsburgh?

People. History. Culture.
