Tell us the story about your brand.  Why is it the best?

Bumbleberry Farms was born of those hives and in my mother Karen’s country kitchen, where she first concocted the company’s award-winning honey cream spreads—inspired by a family recipe—just 18 jars at a time. Over the years, those spreads, and the honey that Karen harvested and sourced, found their way into your hands at hundreds of fairs and festivals around the country. You tried them and brought them to the tables of your family and friends. You gifted them to loved ones each holiday. You shared them at your weddings. You told us they reminded you of your childhood. Food can do just that—take us right back to gatherings around the table with loved ones. Each time the kettles are cooking our delectable spreads—we still make them in small batches using whole ingredients and absolutely no preservatives—we’re reminded of stirring homemade caramels with grandmother’s wooden spoon, warming our hands on frosty days with a mug of rich hot cocoa, or waiting impatiently for the cinnamon rolls baking in the oven.

What is your background?  How did it lead you to starting your brand?

My background is in Business, Sales and Finance. I've always had that entreprunial spirt inside of me and the opportunity came up to continue spreading a little sweetness as the newest owner of Bumbleberry Farms. We are now second generation and deaf-owned, deaf-operated honey production company here in Pittsburgh. I've always wanted to do something for myself and the Deaf community so this dream became a reality. Pittsburgh has always been home to me and always will be. There is something special about yinzers love and support for small businesses throughout the city so this is the ideal location for the company.

What one product do we need to know about and why?

We currently have 11 honey cream spreads and 2 of them won an international award; the Chocolate Raspberry and Pumpkin Spice. However our best seller has always been the Sea Salt Caramel, which is the original spread we created. It goes well on just everything and I enjoy it with sliced apples or on toast with sliced bananas.

In three words, why do you love Pittsburgh?

Vibrant, Resilient and Yinzers
