I’ve lived in Allentown for most of my time here in Pittsburgh but I just moved up the hill to the Arlington neighborhood.
Tell us about your brand and why it’s the best:
We are a bit out of the ordinary from your traditional coffee shop. We are a coffee shop/art gallery/music venue with a heavy metal theme. Our customers love us for our aesthetic, customer service and wide range of unique and original drink creations. We roast our own coffee right here in Pittsburgh and you can find our retail coffee in shops throughout Pittsburgh. We host a wide range of events that help bring our communities together. We see all kinds of people from different backgrounds come together and they use our space to host meetings, study and relax. We have 2 locations in the Pittsburgh region and each shop provides its own dark but tranquil atmosphere. Our goal is to get people out of their comfort zone and try something new and exciting that you won't find anywhere else.
What is your background and the story behind why you started creating?
The reason why I started Black Forge Coffee was to provide opportunities for others. I moved to Pittsburgh in 2008 to attend college for filmmaking and since then I have been a barista at local coffee shops and a lighting designer for music venues here in Pittsburgh for over the last decade. I had the knowledge and experience from my previous careers to help me combine my passions into one cohesive business. I was fortunate enough to be able to share my idea and connect with the community that I lived in. Once I was able to share my vision, felt confident and secured all of the things that go into making a business possible I then opened Black Forge in August 2015 in the neighborhood of Allentown. Since opening our doors I have been able to provide a community space, an art gallery, a music venue, jobs and more opportunities to those who needed a place like Black Forge in their lives.
