WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I’m Abby, and I'm originally from Lewisburg, a cool little town in southern West Virginia.
WHERE DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL AND WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING?
I’m a senior fashion merchandising major at WVU with a focus on sustainability and a minor in journalism.
YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING AT LOVE, PITTSBURGH
I’ve been working as a remote intern with Kelly and Monica at love, Pittsburgh since July. I’ve known about their business for some time, as Kelly visited a few of my classes to discuss the work love, Pittsburgh has done with sustainability. I was immediately enamored and impressed by the brand. Love, Pittsburgh’s gold certification with Sustainable PGH was admirable, as someone interested in lowering the impact that fashion and retail has on the planet. When my advisor reached out to me about an internship opportunity, I jumped at the chance, and secured the awesome remote position that I wouldn’t have otherwise known about – that’s the one thing I can thank this pandemic for.
The past few months I’ve done a variety of different projects with almost unlimited amount of creative freedom that Kelly and Monica have allowed me. I’ve worked with Pinterest to increase our consumer traffic, researched with WGSN to create trend-forecasting boards, and helped with more technical social media features to make love, Pittsburgh’s online presence even more prevalent. I’ve connected with some of the vendors, designers and artisans that make Pittsburgh so great, and they’ve opened my mind to what ethical, local and sustainable retail can really be. Below I’ve attached some of my trend-forecasting boards, by far my favorite project of the summer.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU'RE OUT OF SCHOOL?
I would really like to move to New York or Philadelphia post-graduation and work for a clothing label or company whose morals are in line with my own - meaning they have an inclusive workplace, a sustainable culture and ethical production. My dream job is to write about ethical fashion for a major publication or media company.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU
In my free time, you can catch me tending to my many indoor plants, cooking and pickling new things, and digging for treasures in thrift stores (when there isn’t a global pandemic).
