How to Throw a Locally Sourced Summer Party

How to Throw a Locally Sourced Summer Party

The time to gather in the warm air and under sunny skies is here!  Celebrating new graduates, gathering for family reunions or throwing an annual picnic are all reasons we love to come together.  Make your next event memorable and show your appreciation for the local community by throwing a locally sourced summer party.  Read on for our top tips to make any party local.

Best view from the West End Overlook Park

Sure, a location in Pittsburgh is by default "local".  Choosing a spot that showcases how beautiful our region is sets the scene for a wonderful event.  Be surrounded by serene greenery in peaceful and spacious picnic groves of White Oak Park.  Treat your guests to the best wings in the burgh by reserving the patio at the Bigham Tavern.  Or have the best city view (for real) at the West End Overlook.

Decorate with local flair

Skip the big box party stores and opt for a local vendor.  We love sourcing our party supplies and decorations from Schorin in the Strip District.  If you're doing food prep yourself, Penn Fixture and Supply is open to the public and loaded with all of your catering needs.

Serve local food and drinks

The burgh is chock full of delicious foods, why not showcase them at your event?  We know the authentic pierogis and kielbasa from S&D Deli are a crowd-pleaser.  Shop at a local farm or the Downtown Farmers Market to stock up on the best selection of produce for your fruit salad and sides.  And did you know Leona's does events?  You can order a cooler full of delicious ice cream sandwiches that your group will rave about!

Tarot reading

Support local vendors

There are still many other ways you can incorporate local vendors into your party.  Consider a local print shop like Press Craft Printers for creating your invitations.  Or bringing in some entertainment, a local band, tarot reader or a face painter can be just the thing your event needs to make it the talk of the town.

Now you're ready to throw the best locally-sourced summer party that your guests and local businesses will appreciate.  We'll be waiting for our invite ;)
