Giving more time to causes I care about is one of my New Year's resolutions. The new year is an opportunity to become more intentional with our time and in turn, grow as people. Pittsburgh has countless amazing organizations that are helping our city to be the best it can be. Below are some organizations to start giving back to the city we all love.
Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh
Animal Rescues are close to my heart. Both of my dogs are rescues, and I am forever grateful for the love and care they were given at their shelters. If you're like me and want to adopt them all (but can't) you can give your time at a shelter, like HARP, to help dogs and cats become adoptable and find their furever homes. They also have opportunities at their wildlife rehabilitation center. Check them out!
412 Food Rescue
412 Food Rescue's main mission is to prevent perfectly good food from going to waste. They then redirect that food to those who are food-insecure with the help of their volunteers. As a volunteer, you can claim as many food rescues you would like by using their food rescue app.
Literacy Pittsburgh
Help students with their English language skills with Literacy Pittsburgh!
UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh
There are several different volunteer programs available to give back at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh including group service programs, reading books and playing with children, and even bringing in your pet if they pass the screening and evaluation test!
East End Cooperative Ministry
Offering an array of community, housing, and food services, the East End Cooperative Ministry relies on volunteers. Help in the kitchen or food pantry, become a job coach, or with various youth services.
Hello Neighbor
Hello's Neighbor's mission is to support recently resettled refugees and immigrants. They have a lot of different ways to support and get involved with this awesome cause. Learn how they are helping to make everyone feel welcome here.
The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy
Get outside and get involved with The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy! Pittsburgh has an impressive list of parks that are kept beautiful through volunteer support. It's a great activity for a work or school group, and who doesn't love the feeling of planting a tree?
