Name
Laura Coyt Zavala
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I grew up in California, but I was born in Mexico! I moved to the US when I was ten. About 8 years ago I got a fellowship at Pitt, which is what brought me to the Burgh. I fell in love with it quickly, so I decided to stay after my fellowship ended.
PITTSBURGH NEIGHBORHOOD NOW
I live in the gorgeous neighborhood of Highland Park!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT PITTSBURGH?
I love the topography! Weird, I know, but I love the hills and parks. It feels both like an old city, but also modern. I especially like that Pittsburgh is a historic city, that is well known, but still has a small-town feel. I don’t feel overwhelmed by it, rather, it feels like home.
TELL US SOMETHING SURPRISING ABOUT YOU
I do not have a middle name, but I do use 2 last names! I also won a televised competition in 2013. It was Latinx Jeopardy, basically.
FAVORITE ITEM CURRENTLY IN THE SHOPS?
I love the candles! But especially the “Andy Candle” (part of our Sister Bridges Candle collection) from Bliss 23 Candle Co. and the Fjord and Fable “Harvest Moon” seasonal candle.
WHAT SONG IS STUCK IN YOUR HEAD RIGHT NOW?
“Long Story Short” by Taylor Swift (because duh, it HAS to be Taylor Swift)
