This past weekend I was so excited to visit my daughter in Tuscaloosa, who is a freshman at Alabama. She is thriving and not homesick (yet🙃).
What she DOES miss about Pittsburgh is good Italian food, her cats Snoopy and Lola and dog, Macie. She also mentioned missing parks (including Point State Park and Fairview Park.)
Game Day
Naturally we attended a hot as heck Alabama football game, which was a blow out. Final score Alabama Crimson Tide: 63 Louisiana- Monroe Warhawks: 7. Checking out the infamous tailgates pregame was wild! The quad is filled with tents, tables, TVs, coolers, and EVERYONE is dressed to impress. We even stopped by a fraternity party. The sorority and fraternity houses are supersized down here.
Pittsburgh love
Although my daughter hasn't hit homesickness, I can't help but share some Pittsburgh love. I have been sending out cards, postcards, stickers, and other small items to remind her of home (and make for cute dorm decor.)
Some favorite Tuscaloosa spots we found for postcard writing and downtime were Heritage House Coffee & Tea and Monarch Espresso Bar.
One thing we discovered in common between Pittsburgh and Tuscaloosa (besides a dedication to football) is a love for ranch dressing! Roll Tide….

I’ve been wondering how she is doing. Thanks for the update!
Best wishes to your daughter on a wonderful freshman year! I’m originally from Georgia and NO ONE tailgates like the SEC :)
