A new Mount Washington gift shop highlighting local artisans is kicking things off on June 1st

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

love, Pittsburgh, a much-needed gift shop in Mount Washington, is raising funds to build its inventory of original handcrafted goods sourced from local artists and makers.

Monica Yope, owner of Pop Craft, and Kelly Sanders, creator of toomanysparkles, have always been blown away by the abundance of talented artists and makers in Pittsburgh. But without a permanent spot to shop their wares, have had no real way to support local artisans.

Their solution? love, Pittsburgh — a brand new retail space in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The shop will connect makers to shoppers, serve the local community, as well as the tens of thousands of tourists who visit the area each year.

“love, Pittsburgh will enhance our existing business mix by filling a need for more retail in the district.  This gift shop showcases our makers to the visitors of Mount Washington in a highly visible intersection in the neighborhood,” said Greg Panza, Mount Washington CDC board member.

love, Pittsburgh will serve the over 9,000 local residents, as well as over 300,000 annual visitors of Mount Washington by providing a place to shop for handmade gifts, stationery, home goods, t-shirts, tasteful Pittsburgh-themed gifts, seasonal items, and jewelry.

There’s only one catch. In order to get the store up and running, Yope and Sanders will need to raise $5,000 in order to bolster inventory and make necessary improvements to the space. The women are committed to investing the money from the Kickstarter back within the region.

The majority of the funding will be used to purchase inventory from local artists and makers. “We are sourcing all of our products from Pittsburgh artists and makers, and whenever possible we will hire local businesses for services like we have done for our logo design and the videography for our Kickstarter video.” Monica Yope, love, Pittsburgh owner.

There will be a pre-launch party for the Kickstarter campaign at The Summit, a neighboring business on Shiloh Street on May 31 from 5 – 7pm where neighbors, makers, and anyone who loves Pittsburgh is invited to attend.

The store is slated to open on July 4th.
