WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND AND THE STORY BEHIND WHY YOU STARTED OC GLASS?

I grew up in the Pittsburgh area and stayed close to home through college and graduate school.  Between full-time jobs, classwork and internships, I struggled to find time for creativity or leisure.  After graduation in 2015, I started working with stained glass when my mom and I made a purple butterfly together.  She learned stained glass work from my grandfather so I guess you could say it has become a generational hobby.  My mom and I started taking classes together and my love took off from there.  In addition to stained glass, my interests include backpacking, bike riding, couch surfing, and scary movie watching.  I started OC Glass when a friend encouraged me to show my art to the community and connected me with love, Pittsburgh.  I love the opportunity to create glass for other people so they can appreciate the craft.  It also motivates me to stick to what I enjoy and make sure I’m spending time each week in my “workshop”.

WHAT ONE PRODUCT DO WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT AND WHY?

The glass pickle.  I love the simplicity of the pickle and how it demonstrates that working with glass is not only about color but texture.  The surface of the glass has grooves that mimic pickle skin and the piece would not be the same if it was only a flat green.  Due to the size, it’s a versatile piece that can be a suncatcher, tree ornament, keychain, and much more.  Plus, it’s so Pittsburgh!

IN THREE WORDS, WHY DO YOU LOVE PITTSBURGH?

Food, trails, rivers
